  • When Masamine Date opened Sendai, Osaki Hachimangu was constructed as a "Sohchinjyu" - the total guardian of Sendai for 620 thousand crop yields. This place invited many great masters, so the interior signifies gorgeous techniques of the Momoyama Culture, decorated with richly colored sculptures and wall paintings of a lion. Osaki Hachimangu's architecture is one of the best to present the culture of Azuchi Momoyama Era. In 1903, being the existing oldest Gongendukuri structure, it was registered as one of the important cultural properties and in 1952 as National treasure.
